An Unjustified Slaughter (Tribute To Trayvon Martin)

How many times have we been
confronted with a fear that engulfs
us from a knock on our door.

How many times have justice
been misdirected when hatred and
misplaced laws rest at its very core.

With bad laws and suspicious intentions,
the act of an intentional death has
once again raised its head.

Where is the justice that the Constitution
speaks of.  An inclusive document for
its entire people, so I have heard.

One would think that more then threee hundred
years of hatred and bigotry would have
been enough to turn the hands of time.

One would think  that civility and justice
would serve as the main talking points,
instead of creating a cover up for a crime.

So many people have suffered and
died to remove the stigma of racial injustice,
yet we find that the path to justice is still closed.

There are those that refuse to render justice where
justice is due.  But we as a people have an obligation
to fight to ensure that the cover up is exposed.

We must refuse to give up on our youth, we as
a people must spread the word of truth and justice.
We must instill in them a sense of pride.

I for one am tired of listening to the news of
racial profiling, unlawful arrest and that another
one of our black brothers or sisters have died.

THE MANY AND THE FEW

Dreary days and
endless nights, tormented
by man made dreams
and endless schemes.

Smokey clubs on
Sunset Boulevard, needle
infested alleyways, and
little girls that pimps craves.

I long to rid myself of this self
imposed prison of degradation,
of suffering and needless pain.
If there is no effort there is no gain.

I have discovered that my
many friends are now few.
The many used me to no end.
The few helped me to begin again.

A TRUE FRIEND

How often we forget
from whence we came,
with all our earthly trappings.

When our house was filled
with worldly goods, and
bundles of Christmas wrapping.

The dark days came and
the thunder roared, and
the goods we had no more.

Of those who came and
shared our home,
no longer knocks at our door.

When all was well and
the future bright, and of plenty
there was no end.

The one's I seldom saw at  my table,
or making constant demands,
I discovered were my friends.

I truly value you as a friend.
